Fabric
When manufacturers first started using PVC, many of them experienced the "brown & sticky" problem - when using a PVC coating that has not been formulated to be resistant to sun, salt water and chemicals, the material can become over time "brown and sticky". This is where the plastifiers have migrated from the PVC and the material can be attacked by bacteria. This generally does not occur in "good" formulation PVC coatings.
All Coastal boats use supported polyester fabric (1,100 Dtex Plastomer) with PVC coating, often referred to as the "new generation" PVC. Coastal inflatable boats will not experience the "brown & sticky" problem because of its 5-layer thick construction. The outer layer contains additives specifically for sunlight and chemical resistance. This eliminates the "brown & sticky" problem. The inner layers provide perfect strength
and adhesion.
All Coastal boats are hand sealed at the seams
for perfect seaming every time. It's the most expensive and
reliable method used today. To maximize our bonding and adhesiveness, we use polyurethane based glue. Polyurethane glues offer high durability and protection to heat and salt water.
By incorporating polyurethane base glue, our customers can rely on our boats durability.
Coastal boats are made in an environment where the temperature and humidity are controlled. This prevents the seams from weakening. For maximum strength and durability, each seam is strengthened with four layers of bonded fabric. Seams are overlapped a full inch and reinforced both outside
and inside for extra added protection. The fabric is completely
airtight in water and highly resistant to abrasions, fuel
and harmful sunlight.
The inner baffles on Coastal boats not
only keep individual air chambers completely sealed for safety
but they also have a flexible design which works to equalize
air pressure between cone parts.
Coastal boats use marine plywood which is specially designed for marine applications.
Marine plywood offers strong seals between plywood board sections and also offers high durability against sea water.
In addition marine plywood is coated with P.U. painting which delivers additional protection against sunlight. saltwater, fuel and oil.
